• Material

Dry cast limestone offers the texture, appearance and durability of carved limestone at a fraction of the cost. Dry cast limestone, a material that dates to Roman times, has a natural porosity that makes it frost-proof. Longshadow Planters & Ornaments are suitable for all-season exterior use. The thick, porous walls of Longshadow Planters keep the roots of plants cool and moist during summer, allowing lush plantings.

Longshadow dry cast limestone is a hand made product formulated from natural materials. Slight variations in color occur from time to time as a result of variations in the color of the materials being used. The warm white color of the limestone used in Longshadow Planters & Ornaments matches Buff Bedford Indiana Limestone.

Due to the porosity of dry cast limestone, an attractive, mossy-grey patina will develop with age in moist, shady locations.

• Characteristics and Product Care

Longshadow Planter & Ornaments are suitable for all season exterior use.

Dry cast limestone is durable, but like natural stone, can be damaged if handled incorrectly. Please read and follow the installation instructions provided with each item. All planters and pedestals are supplied with drain holes. Drainage must be assured through the placement of appropriate weep holes during installation.

Longshadow Planters are shipped in foam filled, double walled cartons attached to pallets, via common carrier truck. A fork lift or a loading dock is required for removing pallets from the truck.

Packing the International 60, LS 9095, into a custom built crate. Smaller pieces are shipped in double wall cartons.

Moving the Tivoli Urn, LS 9241, using a small ball harness with extensions, LS 0050.

Installing The Garden Ornament, LS 9108, in the garden of Margaret P. Rea in Sewickley, Pennsylvania.
Using packing blankets to pad the edges of the Glencoe 42 with Square Base, LS 9085.
Most Longshadow Planters & Ornaments are heavy and should be installed on a level, concrete footing that extends below the local frost line. Do not attempt to lift Longshadow pieces without sufficient help and equipmentto move them safely.

Clean, padded web slings or harnesses attached to the forks of a fork lift are recommended to position the larger pieces. Use padding to protect edges when moving planters. An experienced masonry contractor should be involved when installing larger pieces. Detailed installation instructions are provided.

Longshadow Planters should be planted with soil-less mixes that drain well. Drain holes should be covered with the supplied drainage mat, felt side up. In areas of heavy winter freezing, soil should be removed during winter. As an alternative, use lids to prevent the possible accumulation of freezing water.
