Jeld-Wen

JELD-WEN supports the land stewardship ethics of
Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) and has recently completed the Chain of Custody certification by SFI, which governs all changes of custodianship of forest-based products during the harvesting, transportation, processing and distribution from the forest to the end-use.

JELD-WEN's production of select wood doors satisfies Forestry Stewardship Council (FSC) guidelines. FSC promotes environmentally appropriate, socially beneficial, and economically viable management of the world's forests and JELD-WEN strives to utilize suppliers who adhere to these practices in their harvest and replanting operations.

TIPS & TRICKS

SketchUp (Example provided)

Creating Multiply Copies (Radial Arrays):

This feature uses the "Rotate Tool", which can create radial arrays as well as a series of copies along the rotate point.

To start, select "Rotate Tool". (Cursor will become to protractor with a semi circular arrow)

Select the object(s) to be rotated.
  1. To activate multiple arrays, press and release the "Ctrl" key. To verify if you have selected the multiple array command, a "+" will show up with the semi circular arrow.
  2. Select the point of rotation; this is the point in which the array will be applied to. To assist with this, place a line or another object at the point of rotation; this will assure you have chosen the right location of rotation
  3. Move the cursor to the angle desired or type in angle to be applied. A copy of the object selected will be rotated to the desired angle.
  4. This will complete the rotation
  5. For additional copies of this action try one of the following: Multiple Copies (along 360°) Try typing in 2x or *2 ;this will apply additional copies along the rotation at the specified angle along a 360°
    Multiple Copies (along entered angle)
Try typing in /2; this will apply additional copies between the original object and the rotated
    object.

http://www.roofpaver.com/index.htmlSofTILE AP is an innovative, resilient, interlocking roof paver that is manufactured from recycled rubber.

Designed to be placed directly over a roofs waterproofing system, SofTILE AP protects the membrane mechanically and thermally by providing a shield that is trafficable, serviceable and attractive.

SofTILE AP may contribute towards LEED certification points for your new building construction or existing building renovation program.

The post consumer recycled content of the roof paver ranges from 74% to 93% with each paver utilizing a minimum of one passenger tire in its manufacture. A total of 650,000 passengers tires are used in the manufacture of the product each year contributing towards MR credits 4.1 and 4.2 for recycled content.

Sof Surfaces
SofTILE AP is a sustainable product that can be reprocessed and reintegrated once the paver has reached the end of its service life. Contribution towards MR Credits 2.1 and 2.2 can be achieved through the return, and reprocessing of construction waste back into new products.

SofTILE AP is manufactured with a U-shaped locking mechanism built into the body of the paver.  The locking system has been designed to securely fasten each paver to the next, creating an interconnected surface that is resistant to wind uplift, and does not require fastening to the roof system. The underside of the paver has been molded into a raised pedestal design that lifts the paver off of the roof system and allows water to pass freely pass under it.

Manufactured in two different product series, and a virtually unlimited number of colors, SofTILE AP creates viable recreation space while adding patterns, texture and color to rooftops and terraces.

Green Design

Stephanie Norton

Green Building on CADdetails.comIn 1999, The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) launched the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, or LEED program to promote the green building movement.  In Canada, the Canada Green Building Council administers the program.

LEED is a voluntary, point-based rating system for defining what elements make a building 'green' and to quantify how 'green' a building is in comparison to another building. LEED promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing performance in five environmental categories: Sustainable Sites (SS), Energy & Atmosphere (EA), Water Efficiency (WE), Materials & Resources (MR) and Indoor Environmental Quality (IEQ).

Projects eligible for certification under the LEED program for green buildings include commercial, institutional, industrial, and multi-unit residential new construction, as well as major renovations. After a building has been completed and the project team has submitted the project documentation along with the appropriate fee, the USGBC will certify the project as LEED Certified, Silver, Gold or Platinum based on the total number of points or credits earned from a menu of green building measures.

It is important to remember that the LEED rating system certifies buildings, not building materials.  However, the building materials you chose can contribute to achieving points towards the LEED rating of a commercial or residential building or interior. To support architects, builders, building owners and designers in their efforts to achieve LEED certification, we've highlighted the LEED Credits that apply to just a few of the thousands of products available on www.CADdetails.com.

At Landscape Structures, sustainability is a way of life. And we take our role as an environmental steward seriously. We are committed to healthy, sustainable communities and we have programs, products and processes in place that make it happen.

As part of our commitment to sustainable communities, Landscape Structures has partnered with Global ReLeaf®, a program of American Forests. A donation will be made with every playground sale in 2008 to purchase enough trees to offset the carbon dioxide produced while manufacturing that specific playground. Through Global ReLeaf, trees will be planted in major tree reforestation sites throughout the country.

On the product side, we have introduced our Evos™ playsystem, which has a 30% smaller carbon footprint than a traditional playstructure. We also offer playstructure roofs, benches and other products that utilize recycled high-density polyethylene. And we are continually evaluating new products and materials that conserve energy and preserve our natural resources in unique and very effective ways.

Even more importantly are the effective processes we've developed that make the most of our resources. Since implementing our recycling and waste reduction program, we estimate we have prevented 5,700 tons of solid waste from being deposited in landfills. We have also saved 3.8 million gallons of water, 1.3 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 495,000 therms of natural gas since 2003. Our Glass Fiber Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) production process to create Natural Elements™ climbers alone saves more than 500 gallons of water each day!

And finally, our playground products are engineered and manufactured to last for decades, not just a few years. These are not products that need to be constantly replaced.
