Selux Lighting

As an artist works in oils or pastels on canvas or paper, designers use elements of color, texture and design to create expressions of art in our built environment. This article examines ways in which recent advancements in green building technology, from solar power generation, to the ecological art form of the living wall, have opened up new avenues for artistic expression in the AEC industry.

SOLAR LIGHTING

Solar powered lighting does not need an external power source. All the power each light receives comes directly from the sun. These lights are very cost effective, totally "carbon neutral", and come in almost any style or color you can imagine.

Until today, most of the solar products on the market were weak and could not hold a charge for very long. Today, the integration of efficient, high performance batteries into the design of the fixture allows for the storing of more of the energy gathered by the photovoltaic cells. The bulbs themselves have evolved from older incandescent technology to CFL and even LED bulbs that do a much better job of turning energy into light.

Best of all, installation of SELUX photovoltaic lighting systems require no wiring of any kind. Once the fixture is up on its anchor bolts, installation is complete - no cabling, no trenching and no electric bills! The savings can be enormous for off-grid locations due to the elimination of the need to bring in outside power.

LIVING WALLS

Terrascreen
This 4' x 8' living wall is made up of 50 plants.

Living walls can also act as an air purifier for interior environments.  Often described as living art, TerraScreen™ by Tournesol Siteworks allows the designer, landscape contractor, or owner to use "plants as paint" to establish a living, breathing focal point, set a mood, or celebrate a season.  TerraScreen was originally developed by Planterra, a leading interior landscape design and maintenance company, specifically to meet the needs of the hospitality industry. It offers a solution to the challenge of installing a living wall for interior spaces that is instantly lush yet easy to refresh and maintain.

Cosella

Delta

Applications in Commercial Construction & Civil Engineering

Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. is a manufacturer of moisture protection products for the building envelope.

Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. high performance building components protect structures from the foundation to the roof and provide innovative solutions to moisture management problems.

Already well-known for their DELTA®-MS wall waterproofing membrane that changed the industry over fifteen years ago, Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. continues to develop cutting edge technology under the DELTA® brand. Their entire line DELTA® product may be integrated into LEED or other green building programs.

This tradition of innovation began with DELTA®-MS. Not only did the revolutionary air-gap technology change the way we waterproof our homes, it was green before green mattered. From the start, DELTA®-MS has had a 100% recycled material core encased on both sides in virgin polyethylene for sustainability. Environmental consciousness is one thing that is not a new innovation at Cosella-Dörken Products Inc.

The DELTA® Premium Moisture Protection System for Basements is specially designed to divert moisture and create a comfortable living environment. For foundation walls, DELTA®-MS and DELTA®-DRAIN offer moisture control that carries water safely to perimeter drainage. DELTA®-THENE and DELTA®-COLDJOINT BARRIER may be included to add additional security and waterproofing. DELTA®-MS Underslab creates a vapor barrier beneath the basement slab and, along with DELTA®-FOOTING BARRIER, can control vapor diffusion into basements. Years of experience and thousands of successful installations make Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. the leader in foundation protection.
Delta-Dri
DELTA®-DRY and DELTA® water resistive barriers are integrated into above-grade walls to add drainage, bulk water management, and ventilation.

DELTA®-DRY is part of a comprehensive rainscreen system and offers very high performance behind absorptive claddings such as stucco, manufactured stone, and cement board. DELTA® water resistive barriers are high permeability membranes and some may also be designated the air barrier.

On the roof, DELTA® membranes offer the same high permeability and water tightness to add lifespan to the substructure and assist in moisture management. DELTA® membranes bring years of European technology and experience to North America.

In addition to manufacturing high performance building components, Cosella-Dörken Products Inc. provides complete technical backup to the architectural and engineering community. The Technical Department is able to provide all the support required to properly design and specify using moisture protection products by Cosella-Dörken Products Inc.
