Walnut is one of the most popular wood species for counter and island tops. Being a domestic hardwood widely grown across the US and Canada both in “wild” forests and plantations, it’s a sound choice for those seeking a sustainable wood. Midway along the Janka scale, walnut is hard enough to be very durable while being easily workable for the fabricators. One of the darker colored hardwood species, walnut requires no stain or other coloring to achieve the rich yet neutral tones that add an elegant accent to any design. The color is warm without being orange or yellowish. Sapwood is cream to soft mocha color while the heartwood ranges from rich coffee to dark chocolate. These hues are further enhanced by any of our sealers. Moderately priced and absolutely beautiful, walnut countertops are a favorite with our clients.
