Sapele is a very hard, dense wood from tropical Africa. A clear grained, richly colored species, it closely resembles true mahogany and is an excellent choice for wood counter and island tops.Although considered vulnerable, sapele isn’t endangered and is an economically important export from Africa. This wood can be difficult to work but the finished surface has a natural luster and responds beautifully to our sealers. A rich red color with undertones of oche and purple in a finely grained wood, sapele makes a great countertop where a refined effect is the goal. A sapele wood countertop gives cabinetry the look of fine furniture.
