Hard maple is the wood most commonly used in butcher block surfaces down through time. Some of these blocks have been in constant daily use for generations. Additionally, it’s a favorite for gym floors and bowling alleys where durability is a must. The pale blond tone and uniform grain of hard maple is great for applications where a light color is desired. It will take stain beautifully, but is so often used on chopping surfaces where added color isn’t recommended. The classic look is it’s natural buttery hue.
