Alumi-Guard partners with local foundries who produce our extrusions with 80% recycled materials from local sources. Aluminum is the most abundant metal on earth and is one of the most recycled products. Recycling aluminum uses about 5% of the energy required to create aluminum from bauxite. Additionally, recycled aluminum saves 95% of the green house gas emission from primary aluminum production and can be recycled indefinitely with no loss in quality. The installation of Alumi-Guard products contributes towards obtaining LEED points within the USGBC System. Alumi-Guard’s powder coating offers an environmentally friendly solution for architectural environments. With no solvents and virtually no VOCs, the powder coating process results in a cleaner, safer finishing operation. High transfer efficiencies (up to 98 percent), achieved through reclamation, and fewer rejects, make it one of the most efficient coating solutions on the market. These powders are formulated to meet the rigorous 2604 & 2605 specifications of the American Architectural Manufacturers Association (AAMA) and also qualify for LEED Green Building credits. Alumi-Guard has only 1% ± of waste from our coating line.
Because Fox Blocks’ parent company, Airlite Plastics, is making plastic products for multiple industries, there is a constant supply of first-generation recycled material. This material moves within our own facilities, reducing costs and making for a smaller carbon foot print. The resulting insulated foam and plastic ties are of a higher quality and have greater consistency. At Airlite Plastics, there are a large number of machine presses molding plastic products to specific tolerances. Anything that does not meet the specification for the different product specifications is set aside and designated as usable plastic waste (scrap) to be recycled. None of this plastic scrap leaves the plant, so there is ZERO plastic landfill contribution. These out-of-spec products are transferred under the same roof to the Recycling Area. While at the recycling station, the plastic scrap is mechanically ground into flakes, pelletized, and then put through a proprietary process to be remanufactured. This 1st generation recycled plastic is then transferred to the production machine presses to mold Fox Blocks ICF plastic webs and corner brackets. These fresh molded webs and corner brackets are then delivered to the EPS Division plant, on site, for placement into the foam molds that produce finished Fox Blocks Insulated Concrete Forms. This internal recycling process dramatically lowers the overall ICF manufacturing carbon footprint because there are minimal transportation costs, as everything is performed on site. So, Fox Blocks not only contributes to sustainability by constructing long-last buildings resilient to extreme weather events, we support sustainability and recycling in our manufacturing processes.
Ideal Aluminum Products uses extrusions made from 75% recycled (secondary) 6XXX series of aluminum alloys. This material is received and recycled from local suppliers. The remaining 25% of our production is from primary billet, which typically contains 3-5% recycled aluminum. All of their suppliers end aluminum products are 100% recyclable with no downgrading of the material qualities. Over 30% of the aluminum produced worldwide now come from secondary sources (recycled material). The re-melting of aluminum requires little energy as well; only about 5 percent of the energy required to produce the primary metal initially is needed in the recycling process. Ideal Aluminum Products aluminum is 6XXX alloy that is produced from secondary billet extruded in their Oldsmar Florida facility and shipped via truck.
