Ametco powder coating process is solvent free. The powder is formulated using finley ground pigments and resins with zero solvents resulting in a clean air finish and next to zero VOCs. The electrostatic powder to substrate process equates to very little overspray, of which 98% can be retrieved and reused. This would qualify for LEED points only if it is used indoors. Ametco is continuing to work on improving their product line. These changes may increase the LEED points your project can earn.
Arcadia System is made in the U.S.A. from strong, recycled aluminum. In addition to being made from recyclables though, they are powered by discreet self-sustaining solar panels. These panels will help harvest the power to run the motor that opens and closes the louvers via remote control. Since the panels are self-sustaining, the entire unit operates separate from your home’s electricity and won’t add to your electricity bills. You may even save money on power bills with the temperature control you gain via passive solar heating and cooling.
Recycling aluminum, of course, saves bauxite, saves on the disposing of scrap aluminum, and conserves energy. Remelting scrap to produce new aluminum takes less than 5% of the energy needed to make metal from bauxite. Cardinal Architectural WeatherGuard Systems recycles 100% of its scrap through the foundries of local recyclers and uses recycled aluminum on all its painted and anodized matte finishes.
Forms+Surfaces are active participants in green building councils worldwide and current members of the U.S. Green Building Council, Emirates Green Building Council and Green Building Alliance. Lead by a sustainability team that stays up-to-date on evolving International building standards, their involvement will continue to grow as needs arise and new opportunities for staying at the forefront of environmental stewardship are identified. Recycling programs have been implemented in all of Forms+Surfaces facilities, maximizing landfill diversion. Additionally, over ninety percent of their site furniture product lines are now manufactured with FSC certified wood as the standard. This certification serves as a guarantee that the wood has been harvested in an environmentally and socially sustainable way. Forms+Surfaces goal is to convert all site products to FSC certified wood as the standard by the end of 2009.
The ISO Clip provides a thermally broken and intermittent structural attachment for cladding systems to exterior wall assemblies. The clip is fabricated from Z-275 galvanized steel, and over-molded with a plastic isolator. Both horizontal and vertical steel girts can be attached to the ISO Clip, as shown below in Figures 1 & 2. The horizontal flange of the clip has a punched slot that allows the sub-girt to be adjusted and fastened to the clip. The plastic isolator between the metal clip and the wall provides a thermal break that reduces thermal bridging. For steel stud assemblies, the clips are fastened through the exterior sheathing directly to the steel studs using self-drilling screws.
Mapes glazing and extruded aluminum products can perform at higher levels beyond the scope of the standards in the LEED rating system. In such cases, project teams have several options when specifying Mapes high performance architectural systems, including a request for a Credit Interpretation Ruling (CIR) from the USGBC Technical and Scientific Advisory Committee. Another strategy is to document the exemplary performance of Mapes assemblies from a whole building design perspective in the LEED Innovation in Design credit category.
Stego Industries, LLC is involved in the research, design, development, production and marketing of proactive moisture solutions for use in various construction-related applications. EPA mandated water-based adhesive products, new energy codes, and the growing liability for mold and contaminants have forced the building industry to re-evaluate, and switch to cost-effective, solution-oriented products which will help control moisture, moisture vapor, radon gas and other contaminants. Both Stego Wrap and Aridus rapid drying concrete help eliminate major moisture sources that can lead to flooring failures, poor indoor air quality, and delayed construction schedules.
As one of the leading online distributors of teak furniture in North America, Westminster Teak recognizes the influence it plays on the industry and the impact it has on the environment specifically in regard to forest conservation and management. Westminster Teak has made their company’s policy to source their teak wood from well managed, credibly certified forests. Their factory was the first to join Nusa Hijau, the Indonesian Chapter of the Global Forest Trade Network (GFTN), an initiative of WWF®(World Wildlife Fund) to eliminate illegal logging and improve the management of valuable and threatened forests. They purchase wood only from Perum Perhutani, the government-managed plantation that promotes biodiversity and the livelihoods of the people that depend on them. And, because it is the only source in their supply chain for wood base material, they have 100% transparency; they know exactly where all their lumber comes from for every component of their furniture; from the forest-floor to retail floor.
