The new stadium for the MLB Texas Rangers will exist primarily below grade which required significant excavation, soil stabilization, and retention walls up to 60 feet high. In order to guarantee a structure that could withstand the hard environment of the expansive North Texas soils, the designers at HKS, along with the engineers at Hayward Baker, decided to protect the new facility by reinforcing the earth with grouted soil nails and walls of pneumatically-placed concrete. To protect the walls from ground-water and hydrostatic pressure, the engineers included a geocomposite drainage layer between the native soil and the new shotcrete wall with a collection and discharge system at the base of the structure.

The staff at GeoSolutions and AWD worked with Hayward Baker to offer a special version of SITEDRAIN geocomposite sheet drain to fit the specific needs of the project. Hayward Baker understands that drain behind their structural walls is an inexpensive method to minimize the risk of damage due to hydrological forces. They requested a sheet drain with a robust solid core but with a 4.2 oz AASHTO Class 3 nonwoven geotextile on both sides. The geotextile on the back/blind side of the drain aids in the way the shotcrete adheres to the material, which is important on a project of this scale.

At the bottom level of all the walls, AWD's Universal Tee Outlets were used to transition the drain to a piping system where the collected water could be conveyed to a main perimeter drain and be excavated to a sump system for discharge.

The new facility is scheduled to be ready for the opening day of the 2020 baseball season.
