Project challenge
When the remodeling team for the Ronald McDonald House in Des Moines, Iowa, started searching for ways to add style, charm and warmth to the facility’s interior design, there was no need to look any further than JELD-WEN’s Custom Carved door line. Built in the late 1970s, the Ronald McDonald House needed a thorough update from its former mix-and-match décor.

Architectural solution
JELD-WEN’s interior door replacement service made it easy to install new custom interior doors that featured a heart drawing specially designed for the home. Taking advantage of the latest technology, precise 3-D measurements were taken of each door opening and transmitted to a JELD-WEN manufacturing facility. Custom doors were then made to fit each existing door frame. At the Ronald McDonald house, the doors with the carved hearts took less than three weeks to order and the Perfect Fit program made it possible to install all 24 doors in less than a day.
The custom heart design was a simple solution that immediately infused the home with a sense of comfort for families staying there.
“I saw the Custom Carved doors at the International Builders’ Show and thought they would be perfect for this project,” said Carol Schalla, senior home editor for Midwest Living magazine. “JELD-WEN took my drawing and replicated it on the doors. They add to the charm of the home and everyone has been blown away at how modern they make the space feel.”
