Located just south of Carmel Valley, this 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom contemporary home with a mid-century modern flare is built with fire resistance and sustainability on the forefront of the design. To avoid disturbing the dozens of old-growth oak trees, and to mitigate the site’s elevation change of 75-plus feet, the architects opted to lift the 2,330-square-foot partially prefabricated home to a raised foundation from the highest point on the lot. This home was built to celebrate the views of the west, south, and east that overlook the valley. All Weather Architectural Aluminum doors and windows frame views of the landscape and flood the interior with natural light. Powered by a 6.5-kWh solar array and equipped with mostly electric appliances, the Waterfall Residence is designed to achieve net-zero energy after it’s been tested for a full year.
