This property sits near the top of a steep wooded slope. The designer wanted to provide a more creative way to retain the soil while having it blend in more to the landscape. We had the opportunity to collaborate with the designer for a custom set of steel retaining walls.

We provided custom rectangle planters and Forma walls for the project. The planters were a custom size with open bottomsand coated with an optional Tnemec paint. The planters serve as a vegetable and cutting garden.

The design called for a more subtle approach to terracing the slope. Retaining the slope was accomplished with multiple freestanding curved and straight wall sections up to 40’ long with boulders punctuating the end of the walls. The boulders and staggered wall placement allowed for plantings to cascade down the hill and blend in with the retaining walls.

The retaining walls were built using Forma wall sections with .250” thick steel with epoxy paint similar to the other planters on the project. The wall heights vary from 12” up to 48”. Tiebacks were used to add strength to the taller wall sections.
