In the 1920s and 1930s cork flooring was installed in churches, libraries, universities, and governments buildings throughout the United States. The First United Methodist Church at the Chicago Temple,built in 1924, had Light and Medium cork tiles in 3 sizes installed in the sanctuary and narthex.
When the church was renovated in 2008 and Mediterra Light and Medium tiles in the same 3 sizes were installed in the renovated sanctuary and narthex.
As illustrated by this church, cork floors when properly maintained can offer decades of use.
