Project Details

Location
Boston, MA

53 State Street, also known as Exchange Place, is a 1.24 million square-foot iconic trophy office tower located in Downtown Boston. The building seamlessly integrates the granite and marble-clad historic Boston Stock Exchange Building with a 40-story modern glass office tower entered through a stunning seven-story, glass-enclosed atrium.

The glass-enclosed atrium is topped by a first-in-class landscaped roof deck on the 12th floor with spectacular direct Boston Harbor views, an outdoor fireplace, and ample seating areas reserved for tenant use. Additional amenities include an outdoor arcade with seating areas along Congress Street, a state-of-the-art fitness center, and a conference center.

Halvorson | Tighe & Bond Studio of Boston, behind such key projects as Clippership Wharf, Harvard Square Plaza, Government Center Station, and many parks, was tasked with the Landscape Architecture of this world class project. Halverson specified DeepStream Designs’ cost-effective Mariner commercial wood planters for this project.

DeepStream’s commitment to sustainable design led to the creation of a commercial engineered modular wood planter system using aluminum extrusions that will last for decades, conserving this precious natural resource. Mariner planters, backed by a Lifetime Structural Warranty, will not tear themselves apart in 3-5 years like a wood planter built with traditional carpenter techniques.

DeepStream’s proprietary structural marine-anodized aluminum extrusions contain the tremendous forces produced by rot-resistant tropical hardwood as it undergoes countless wet and dry cycles, expanding and contracting over its lifetime, forces that tear apart lesser planters.

The structural aluminum frame contains the wood planks that create the façade and enclose our proprietary rotomolded food-safe liners, or custom-welded waterproof plastic liners, while hiding directed drainage and drip irrigation systems. Both liner types employ advanced drainage techniques.

The anodized Mariner frame system means there is no paint or powder coating to fail. It also allows the use of environmentally friendly, no-maintenance, non-structural recycled plastic lumber that helps save the World’s tropical rainforests from needless exploitation.

DeepStream’s modular Mariner commercial planter extrusion is engineered to anchor integrated, gates, doors, and screen wall to control access, provide safety and security, block wind and unsightly views, and add privacy.
