Boston’s Red Sox Fenway Gardens Strega Deck
Boston, MA

Project Details

Location
Boston, MA

In the spring of 2015, the 2,400 square feet of Fenway Farms was planted. An innovative environmental project created a roof garden for produce atop the 5,000 square foot roof deck over the front office of the Boston Red Sox Fenway Park. Located on the third base side of the ballpark above Yankee Way, this unique roof deck farm was a collaboration between the Red Sox and two local Somerville firms, Recover Green Roofs and Green City Growers.

The previously underutilized rubber roof was transformed into a fruitful space with social and environmental benefits. 6,000 pounds of organic vegetables and herbs and 16 pounds of honey are freshly harvested and served in the various restaurants throughout the ballpark.

The remaining 2,600 square feet of roof deck was used to create the Strega Deck Restaurant. The Strega family of Italian and seafood restaurants provides a uniquely Boston dining experience at the park in an open-air club atmosphere with tables divided by DeepStream’s low-maintenance Mariner Planters with advanced drainage that hide an automatic drip irrigation system that minimizes labor while growing more fresh produce. Talk about Farm Fresh!

As with all DeepStream products, these large lightweight, self-contained planters are backed by a Lifetime Structural Warranty and unique “Core Replacement Program,” as they are constructed with our trademark Mariner marine-anodized extrusions and structural aluminum frame system supporting rugged waterproof liners and slide-in panels of Ipe Brown recycled plastic lumber.
