Wetlands Mitigation Banks preserve, enhance or restore natural resources throughout the permanently protected property. The Greens Bayou Wetlands Mitigation Bank (Greens WetBank) is the Harris County Flood District's longest established wetland mitigation bank and consists of 961 acres of permanently protected wetlands. The project consisted of repairing the all-weather access roads throughout the Greens Bayou Wetlands.

EnviroGrid® Geocell played a significant role in providing sub-grade improvements throughout the wetland's utility access roadways. It is crucial that these roadways remain accessible through all weather conditions for flood control and wetlands operations.

STABILITY FOR SITEWORK SOLUTIONS

EnviroGrid® Geocell was chosen for its ability to provide a strong foundation to support heavy loads over soft, saturated soils that could withstand the flow velocity from the flooding that frequented the area.Through cellular confinement technology, the infill material is strengthened to provide a solid roadway that would remain functional despite the humid climate of the marshy wetlands.

SUB-BASE IMPROVEMENT

Subgrade preparation of the area consisted of installing a woven geotextile and 3" x 5" rock (also known as bull rock). The subgrade was then topped with 60,000 sf of 6" EnviroGrid® Geocell filled with a crushed limestone flexible base. The infill material was installed using
the blade of a bulldozer to push material into the cells, which were then compacted using a rolling compactor.

By reinforcing the roads with EnviroGrid®, routine maintenance costs will be reduced, while providing all-weather accessibility of the roadways.
