Lexington Park shows creativity in leveraging two very narrow strips of land to create an inviting workout area.. The park planners wanted to include a health and wellness component for all visitors at the park. The fitness areas reside between two sports fields and a walking track. The placement of the outdoor fitness equipment helps parents as they can now exercise while they watch their kids on the sports fields. This park was designed to get everyone moving no matter what age they are.

The first area is 1520 sq. ft and consists of five Legacy Series units and three Signature Accessible units for beginners, older adults and people in wheelchairs. Some of the Legacy Series units included in the project are 4-Person Pendulum, Abs & Dip Station, 2-Person Cross-Country Ski, and the 4-Person Leg Press. These machines use a proportion of body weight for leverage or are resistance free for stretching. The patented Signature Accessible units (U.S. patented 9,079,069) at Lexington Park are inclusive of people in wheelchairs. They allow for individuals in wheelchairs to workout alongside their able-bodied friends and family members. This equipment exercises the arms, lats and chest.

The second area is 1200 sq. ft. and features a custom functional fitness rig. This rig can be used by 17 people at one time. It has 14 different components such as pull-up bars, high rings, parallel bars, dips and a flag pole. Though the rig is compact, it’s perfect for advanced park users coming to get active.

Community leaders see the advantage of adding a fitness area.

“The outdoor fitness equipment was certainly an integral part of the park,” said Paul Morales, mayor of Cypress. “Yes, you can have athletic fields. You can have watching paths like this does, but you know not everybody has the time to get out there to go run several miles. Sometimes you only have 10, 15 to 20 minutes, and having outdoor equipment like that readily available, so close, a part of the community just helps everyone.”
