Not long after the installation of the field, it had to process a very heavy downpour which went on for 25 minutes. After this rain the field was completely dry within 5 minutes. Architect, François Hébert: ‘Not only is the planimetry of the field is perfect, it drains with incredible speed. Spectacular! We have found a winning recipe’.
McGill’s executive director of athletics and recreation, Drew Love:
‘We’re pleased to finally move forward on this project. With the almost round-the-clock use that our field gets during the summer and fall, the old surface had degraded significantly. The upgrade will also provide a safer turf for our student-athletes’.
This is what Love said in a statement, explaining that improvements to the drainage were necessary as numerous varsity soccer games and intramural activities had been postponed over the past few years due to water accumulation on the field during heavy rains.
