EAST AUGUSTA NEIGHBORHOOD AVOIDS FLOODING WITH RINKER MATERIALS® REINFORCED CONCRETE PIPE
Part of a multi-phase East Augusta Roadway and Drainage Improvements project, Blair Construction installed more than 10,000 linear feet of Rinker Materials® reinforced concrete pipe (RCP) in Marion Homes. Located east of the Savannah River on Sand Bar Ferry Road, the historic neighborhood easily floods when it rains causing safety hazards along surface roads and residential driveways. The new stormwater management system featuring round and elliptical RCP, and concrete box culverts will alleviate this problem in the future.
Designed by the City of Augusta, the infrastructure project specified elliptical pipe rather than arch pipe along with ASTM C-443 rubber gasketed round RCP. Nearly 5,000 linear feet of round RCP ranging from 18” to 42” in diameter and more than 5,000 linear feet of elliptical RCP in 14” x 23”, 24” x 38”, 29” x 45”, 34” x 53” and 38” x 60” sizes were used on the project. Challenged to stay on the tight budget, the stormwater management system was completed in the fall of 2020. RCP has been shown to retain structural integrity for 100 years or more providing a safer environment for future generations.
