For the new wing of the public hospital located in the small town of Grosseto in Tuscany. The original plans were to install a natural green roof. However, with limited budgets for on-going maintenance activities, and in particular non-strategic landscaping services, the medium- and long-term feasibility and sustainability of this approach were far from certain.

Therefore, when the architects and construction company involved became aware of Roofingreen, they decided to redesign the roof area. Of the total 30,000 square feet, two thirds were to be covered with turf and the remainder with porcelain pavers. This would also allow easy access and use by both hospital patients, personnel and visitors.

An additional positive element that was a major factor in the decision-making process, is the possibility to carry out roof inspections and controls fast, with minimum impact and no loss of material.

The Roofingreen M10 DRAIN tiles were cut to create curved surfaces contributing to the harmony and organic shape of the rooftop that stands out against the otherwise rather dull environment and skyline. Roofingreen’s positive contribution to the creation of a biophilic and sustainable outdoor environment is beyond discussion.
