Modera Rincon Hill
California, USA

Project Details

Location
California, USA

Modera Rincon Hill apartments at 390 1st Street are in the East Cut neighborhood which is becoming one of San Francisco’s most desirable places to live. The Modera building has modern amenities, gyms, easy access to transportation, restaurants, and shops, and four expansive rooftop terraces with views of the San Francisco Bay and downtown.

For these rooftop terraces, PGAdesign Landscape Architects specified over 90 of Tournesol’s Wilshire Collection rectangular planters. Installed by Eggli Landscape Contractors, 76 of the planters were our Wilshire Weathering Steel (in various lengths and heights) of which most were custom-sized. Our weathering steel(Corten) is steel that rusts but maintains its structural strength.

Additionally, 5 of the Wilshire planters were fabricated of lightweight GFRC concrete, in a Travertine finish and color Shadow (gray); 10 more rectangular planters were manufactured in lightweight FRP fiberglass, in a smooth texture with the color Puddle (also a shade of gray). These particular planters were smaller sized, 36” L x 24” W x 24” H, and fitted with locking casters; part of the rooftop design that needed planters to be mobile and moveable. They also contained matching sizes of CWM Modular Container Irrigation Systems. The CWM system has a proprietary sensor that monitors the moisture level of the soil and gives only the amount of water needed.

With the plantings, layout, and landscaping design of the rooftop terraces, the installation is beautiful and a lovely place for the residents to take a break, have a coffee, or just breathe in the Bay Area air.
