About this project:
Haddonstone’s USA team, based in Pueblo, Colorado, was approached in June 2022 to assist with the construction of a brand new hospital in Yuki, Ibaraki, Japan. The director of Yuki Hospital had previously visited the Haddonstone’s UK Show Gardens and was impressed with the quality of our cast stone products. Haddonstone was subsequently commissioned to produce a large quantity of high-quality cast stone architectural components for this ambitious project.
In order to ensure all of the cast stonework was manufactured in accordance with the project’s deadlines, a decision was made to switch the production of the components to Haddonstone’s UK manufactory. However, Haddonstone UK and USA continued to work closely throughout the duration of the project, making this a truly successful collaboration between both teams.
Our teams also worked closely with the project’s architect, Nobu Archi Design, based in Yokohama, Japan, for the full extent of the project. This close partnership meant that our design and manufacturing teams were able to produce cast stonework that met the architect’s exact specifications.
The project’s standard and custom architectural stonework solutions are listed below.
Project Solution:
The interior and exterior façade cast stone building and construction components manufactured for this project included:
- Cast stone, custom window surrounds
- Cast stone, standard and custom ramped balustrade
- Cast stone, custom Bishop Finials
- Cast stone, custom columns for internal and external use
- Cast stone traditional planters
Each stone design was manufactured using our Haddonstone (semi-dry cast limestone) material.
Haddonstone’s classic Ivory color was chosen for each component.
In total, approximately 115,000 kg of cast stone components were manufactured for this project.
Client feedback:
“It was a great pleasure working with Haddonstone and their teams in the USA and the UK.
My client first suggested the idea of building a nursing home in Japan which was modeled on the 16th century Manor House Hotel in the Cotswolds, England. I initially started designing a typical Cotswolds-style building, however, it was challenging to create an authentic design that met my client’s expectations.
Our USA supplier, Pac-Rim Building Supply, Inc., recommended Haddonstone, so my client visited their UK head office to review the quality of their products and to view their Show Gardens.
Once the building design was finalized, Haddonstone’s USA team was very accommodating and their communications were outstanding. With Haddonstone’s superior products and their excellent team, the project resulted in a great success.
When we hear the many compliments about the building, and how people think that it “looks like an English manor house”, we know that we have successfully executed our vision.”
Many thanks to Haddonstone!”
