GROWING TOGETHER THROUGH PLAY
By opening its all-new inclusive playground, Bonnie Grimes Elementary School in Rogers, Arkansas allows students of all ability levels to connect through learning and fun. Each piece of equipment throughout the play space creates an opportunity for kids to come together; whether it’s to overcome a challenge, delight the senses, or discover a new friend.
Climbing activities, such as Stax™ Summit Climber and Loop Climber, offer a test of physical skills that not only help kids develop their strength, but also foster collaboration. Kids can help one another reach the deck, partake in a friendly competition, or incorporate the equipment into their play narrative.
For less physically demanding activities that provide a similar social opportunity, the playground features an array of sensory equipment. Scrambled Scales Panel, for example, allows kids to compose their own tune or listen along to another budding musician. Not only will they build their auditory and tactile skills—kids will bond through their shared interest in music.
To ensure all students can fully experience the magic of play with one another, the Together Glider is located in the center of the play space. With room for mobility devices as well as benches and support rails, children of any ability level can experience a smooth ride and gentle breeze. The Together Glider doesn’t just provide a proprioceptive experience, though. Rather, it serves as a hub for social interaction between all kids and facilitates understanding among classmates.
Thanks to the strategic combination of equipment by Hahn Enterprises, there’s something for every kid to enjoy regardless of age or ability. As generations of students use this play space, a greater sense of community will prosper both in and out of the classroom.
