We partnered with Glenn County and Willdan Engineering on a design-build project at Willows Memorial Park, creating a unique nature themed play space.

The Challenge

During the Willows Memorial Park Project, we encountered a challenge with the original design's inverted slab, which featured a 0.05% flow direction for general drainage. This caused the finished grade to vary from 3.5 inches to 6 inches.

Our Solution

To address the varying finished grade thickness and ensure safety compliance at Willows Memorial Park, we consulted the county to have a wedge layer of pervious concrete atop the inverted slab. This allowed for us to install a uniform 3.5" surfacing system that met ASTM standards and maintained proper drainage. This solution preserved the existing drainage system and minimized project change orders, effectively resolving the initial design challenges.

A One-Of-A-Kind Nature Theme Playground Structure

The final design included a nature-themed custom structure and rubber surfacing, maximizing play value while maintaining a unique aesthetic.
